ArgoCD Pricing

ArgoCD is a CNCF-graduated open-source project distributed under the Apache 2.0 license. There are no licensing fees, subscription costs, or per-user charges for ArgoCD itself. The total cost of ownership consists entirely of the infrastructure required to run the ArgoCD control plane components and the Kubernetes clusters it manages.

The primary costs associated with ArgoCD are Kubernetes infrastructure costs. A typical ArgoCD deployment requires a control plane running in a Kubernetes cluster with modest resources: 2-4 vCPU and 4-8 GB RAM for the argocd-server, argocd-repo-server, argocd-application-controller, and argocd-redis components. These can run on small worker nodes or be scheduled on existing cluster resources.

Several cloud providers offer managed ArgoCD services that abstract away the operational overhead. Codefresh offers a managed ArgoCD platform starting at approximately $30 per user per month. Akuity, founded by ArgoCD creators, provides a SaaS ArgoCD control plane with pricing based on cluster count. Red Hat OpenShift GitOps bundles ArgoCD as part of its OpenShift platform subscription.

While ArgoCD itself is free, organizations should factor in operational costs for: cluster infrastructure for the control plane, storage for cached Git repositories and manifests, network egress for multi-cluster synchronization, and administrator time for configuration, upgrades, and troubleshooting. Self-managed ArgoCD typically costs less than managed alternatives but requires dedicated DevOps expertise.

Like ArgoCD, Flux is also free and open-source. The primary cost differentiator between GitOps tools is not licensing but operational overhead, ecosystem integration, and the expertise required to maintain them. Managed services from vendors like Akuity or Codefresh add monthly costs but reduce operational burden.
